What does a tragedy like the Vajont disaster leave behind? Grab your camera and join our photojournalist, Marco Zorzanello, to capture the influence of humanity on nature. Through the exploration of the communities of Erto and Casso and the dam itself, we reflect on the meaning of reconstruction and solidarity.

TRIP PURPOSE

A narrative on the resilience of the communities of Erto and Casso after the Vajont tragedy, exploring the meaning of reconstruction and solidarity through photography.

This trip has been designed based on the following principles:

Important Info

All activities will be conducted entirely in Italian. Participants must arrive with their own car: if you don’t have one, we’ll arrange carpooling among the group. This trip is open to everyone, from seasoned photography enthusiasts ready to challenge themselves to beginners just starting to explore this world. Through individual guidance, each participant will have the opportunity to develop their own approach based on their skill level. The tool used for photography—whether a smartphone or a professional camera—is not important; what truly matters is the curiosity and willingness to learn of the person behind it.

What's included

  • Food: 2 breakfast, 2 lunch and 2 dinner.
  • Accomodation: 2 nights at a BnB with a double bed for single use, a double bed for double use, or a sofa bed for single use.
  • Activities: Three photography workshops and a guided tour of the Vajont Dam.
  • Other: Support of the ORMA coordinator during the trip.
  • Insurance: Medical and baggage insurance.

What's not included

  • Food: Lunches and dinners, unless specified otherwise.
  • Accomodation: City tax
  • Transportation: Trip to and from Erto and Casso starting from €50. all transfers and transportation.
  • Other: Trip cancellation insurance.
  • Anything not specified under "What's included".

Payment Terms

30% down payment at the time of booking and the remaining 70% due 30 days prior to departure.
If the booking is made within 30 days of departure, the full amount is due at checkout.
Bank transfers or credit cards can be used to make payments.

If minimum participation isn't met, the trip will be canceled, and you'll be fully refunded.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Exploring Erto – Grief and Rebirth
Arrive in Erto after lunch and meet your guide Marco. Begin with a short photography-based introduction activity to meet your fellow travelers. After a brief overview of the weekend’s challenges, explore the streets of Erto with your camera.
First challenge: Capture two abstract concepts: grief and rebirth. Learn techniques to translate emotions into compelling images.
Optional: Visit the Erto Visitor Center. Conclude the day with a shared dinner.


Day 2: Casso and the Vajont Dam – Art and Nature
Start the day with a trip to Casso, either by car (10 minutes) or on foot (around 1 hour, depending on the group’s preference).
Photography challenge: Focus on details, avoiding panoramas, and capturing the interplay of nature and human creativity.
After lunch, visit the Vajont Dam for a guided tour. Learn about its haunting history and the marks left on the land and its people. Explore memorial sites and hear moving stories shared by expert guides.
Photography challenge: Capture the emotions evoked by the landscape.
End the day back in Erto with dinner and reflection.

Day 3: Revisiting Erto – A Story in Photos
Begin the morning with a group review of the photos taken during the trip, refining your storytelling techniques. Spend the late morning wandering through Erto and its surroundings for a final photographic exploration. Share a last meal together before departing between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM, taking with you not only photos but also a deeper perspective on resilience and creativity.

Marco Zorzanello is a documentary photographer. Since late 2015, he has focused his photographic investigation on visually narrating climate change, with a particular emphasis on its effects on the tourism industry. Through his long-term project, “Tourism in the Climate Change Era,” he has forged significant collaborations with renowned publishers, journalistic outlets, and international media, including Time, National Geographic, The New York Times, Newsweek Japan, Internazionale, and many more. His visual research revolves around the relationship between humans and the environment, often incorporating ironic storytelling elements to best convey the sometimes exaggerated context in which we live.
